The chamber was dark, illuminated with the faint moonlight. Raiza knew that Maliheh was in the room. Was Maliheh her mother ?! This is not possible... She secretly hated Maliheh for years. How can she now call her - Madär (mother).... Out stepped a figure from the darkness, a lady with nimble fingers and a quivering gait......
No! It was not Maliheh. But this lady, Raiza knew all too well. She called her A'mmeh (Aunty) Khoja - she was Khojassteh, Bahram's wife. It seemed like Raiza was at the epicentre of a whirlpool. Everything was swirving around her and she couldnt find her balance until all collapsed into a space of black. This meant that she was the daughter of the wife of her rapist !
I left you earlier when Mali was bloodstrewn lying in Khoja's lap. I must tell you what construed. The Shah ran like a warrior to hold his dear Mali, he took her away from Khoja's grasp and cuddled her like a precious pup. Doktur Khan was summoned and he reached within seconds to serve the man to whom he owed his life. He confirmed that they would need to call on the royal midwife as Mali had been raped! And so the midwife was called upon and the procedures were followed. But, what would calm the Shah's wrath ? He had only just made his peace with Raiza's unfortunate accident and now this revelation.
The pain took him back in time to his first rendezvous with the Khoja after her marriage to Bahram. Bahram was in Yazd (place in Persia) as usual on the pretext of cracking a business deal but actually enjoying the company of countless women. Khoja was never happy with her marriage to this older man; she had loved only once and only one man would she ever love - the Shah. And Nadr also knew that Sati loved him with or without his title, honors and privileges. Nadr was alone in his chamber and in walked Sati, radiant in white. She walked into his chamber like she owned the room and that it was her birthright. The Shah was taken aback when Sati wrapped herself in his arms. The night grew darker and come morning Sati kissed the Shah good bye. This would be their last encounter and such was the end of an eternal love story. A peaceful end ? How can that be when Maliheh saw Sati step out of the Shah's chambers ?! Mali did not breathe a word; it was a secret she wished to keep and one that she would reveal only when the time was right.

This night would change the course of Nadr and Sati's relationship. They werent just lovers any more. They had created the unthinkable - something that would bind them eternally, a baby. Bahram came back and two months later, Khoja told him of her pregnancy. He never suspected because he thought himself to be a proud man. His wife would never cheat ..... or so he thought ....
You thought Hazār Afsānah is coming to an end ?! Think again .. Afsānah has only begun :)
Love,
S
